Common Questions
I don't see any pests — do I still need pest control?
Fair question. In Southwest Florida, by the time you spot a roach in the kitchen or ghost ants on the counter, there's usually a colony somewhere you can't see. Our humidity, rainy season, and slab-on-grade homes keep pests active all 12 months.
What a quarterly visit does:
- Renews the exterior treatment before sun and rain wear it down
- Catches entry points — weep holes, soffit gaps, slab cracks — before anything moves in
- Covers you between visits: on a recurring plan, if covered pests show up, we come back free
If you're pest-free right now, that's the easiest time to start. We're maintaining, not chasing.
Why are ongoing treatments necessary instead of just an initial one?
Because Florida has no off-season. Warm, wet weather keeps ants, roaches, and spiders active year-round, and exterior treatments wear down in the sun and rain. Recurring visits renew that protection, catch new entry points, and adjust to what's active each season — ghost ants in the rainy months, rodents moving indoors in the cooler ones. The first service knocks the population down. Recurring visits keep it down.
Do your prices go up?
On a month-to-month residential plan, each service's rate holds for your first 12 months; your WaveGuard bundle discount follows the services you keep. After that we review a rate once a year, and if it changes you'll hear from us in writing at least 30 days before the new rate applies, with the reason. Month-to-month plans have no contract — cancel anytime. Termite programs and warranties, annual-contract plans, and commercial accounts follow their own agreements.
Is it necessary for me to be at home during pest and lawn services?
For your first pest control visit, please be home so your technician can walk the property with you. After that, we don't need you home for the outside treatment, and you'll get a digital service report with photos when we're done. For anything inside the house, someone needs to be home or leave us a way in. Lawn service happens outdoors, so you don't need to be home for any lawn visit.
Why hire a professional when I can do it myself?
You can handle a lot yourself: seal gaps, fix leaks, pull mulch back from the foundation. A pro earns the fee in the parts that are easy to get wrong. That means identifying the exact species (ghost ants and fire ants need opposite approaches), choosing products that won't scatter a colony, and getting into attics and soffits. On a recurring plan, we also come back free if pests return. Store-bought repellent sprays often push ants and roaches deeper into the walls instead of ending the problem.
What are these tiny bugs in my pantry?
Usually one of three: Indian meal moths (small moths, plus webbing in grain or cereal), rice weevils (tiny beetles with a snout, in rice and pasta), or flour beetles (small reddish-brown beetles in flour and baking mixes). Throw out infested food, vacuum the shelves, and move dry goods into sealed containers. If they keep coming back after a thorough clean-out, call us and we'll track down the source.
Why do you treat both the inside and outside of my home?
On a residential general pest plan that includes inside service, your first visit includes an inside spray along with the outside treatment. After that, the inside is up to you: we treat it whenever you ask. The regular visits focus on the exterior — the perimeter, eaves, and entry points — because that's where most Florida pests come from.
If you're on an exterior-only plan and want inside service back, ask the office and they'll add it. Mosquito service and commercial accounts follow their own scope.
What happens if I'm still seeing pests after my first treatment?
That's normal. For up to two weeks after a treatment you may see some activity, because it flushes pests out of their hiding spots before it finishes the job. It fades as the products keep working. If it hasn't slowed after two weeks, tell us. On a recurring plan, the re-treat is free.
How is payment handled?
Your technician can take a card, check, or cash at the visit. You can also pay with the card or bank account we have on file, or by check or cash through the office.
New recurring customers who pay by card save the card when they book and are charged after the first visit. You can also prepay a full year up front. Invoices, receipts, and payment history are all in your customer portal and our app.
Will I know when my technician is coming?
Yes. You get a reminder before your visit, and when your tech heads your way you get a live map link showing where they are and when they'll arrive. After the visit, your service report arrives by text and email.
Is your pest control safe for my kids and pets?
Stay off treated areas until they're dry. That's the product label rule, and it applies to kids, pets, and grown-ups alike. There's no fixed number of minutes to count. We apply every product according to its label directions, and your technician gives you re-entry guidance after every service. If anyone in your home has sensitivities, tell us and we'll plan the treatment around them.
Should I start pest control right after moving into a new home?
It's a good time to. New homes get pests too: fresh sod often arrives with fire ants, construction leaves gaps around pipes and conduits, and the builder's code-required termite protection usually lapses a few years after closing. An early visit seals up entry points and sets up protection before anything settles in.
What does your guarantee cover?
On recurring plans, if covered pests come back between scheduled visits, we come back and re-treat free, as often as it takes. If we can't resolve a covered problem after a fair chance, we refund your most recent service payment. One-time treatments and inspections aren't covered, and termite treatment carries no guarantee of its own: a renewable termite warranty is optional and sold separately, with its own written terms. Read the full Waves Guarantee.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. We’re licensed by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS pest control business license JB351547) and insured. Our technicians work under that license, as Florida law requires.
Why is pest control important?
In Southwest Florida, pests do more than annoy you. Roof rats chew wiring and foul attic insulation. Termites cause structural damage that homeowners insurance usually doesn't cover. German roaches and rodents contaminate food and kitchens, and mosquitoes can carry diseases like West Nile virus. Regular service keeps small problems from turning into expensive ones.
Where can I find pest control near me?
If you're in Manatee or Sarasota County, we're local: Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch, Parrish, Palmetto, Sarasota, Venice, North Port, and the communities in between. We also serve Charlotte County (Port Charlotte included) except Punta Gorda, plus Ruskin, Apollo Beach, Sun City Center, Wimauma, Gibsonton, and Riverview.
We don't serve Punta Gorda, DeSoto County, Tampa, St. Petersburg, or Lee County. Enter your address in our quote form and you’ll have a price in about a minute.
When will I get my WDO termite inspection report?
The report is emailed to you after the licensed inspector signs it, normally the same business day as the inspection. If you're working against a closing date, call us and we'll confirm the timing.
How many lawn applications are there in a year?
New residential lawn plans run 9 or 12 applications a year, depending on the plan you choose.
Do you treat the lanai and pool cage?
Yes. Regular pest visits include the lanai and the pool cage.
Are wasp and mud dauber nests included?
Small paper wasp and mud dauber nests on the house are included on regular pest visits. Larger, aggressive or hard-to-reach hornet and wasp nests are quoted separately.
Does rain affect my pest treatment?
A treatment needs to dry and bond to surfaces first. After that, it holds up to weather.
Do you treat honeybees?
Yes. We handle nuisance honeybee colonies and swarms, and we can remove the comb afterward. We don't do live removal or relocation; in Florida that's a beekeeper's job. What we can do at your home is decided on inspection, and colonies inside walls or roofs, or high and hard to reach, may be referred to a specialist.
What does rodent trapping include?
It includes the setup visit and one trap check. Any trap checks after that are billed separately.
How many visits is a cockroach treatment?
A standalone cockroach treatment, one that isn't part of a recurring plan, is two visits for one price. A German roach cleanout can take more visits, depending on how heavy the problem is.
What are the tiny fuzzy flies around my drains?
Those are usually drain flies: small, fuzzy, moth-shaped flies near sinks, tubs, and showers. Their larvae live in the film inside the drain, so scrubbing the drain and using an enzyme drain cleaner fixes it. A spray won't. Flies around houseplants are usually fungus gnats instead. If you're not sure which you have, send us a photo and we'll tell you.
Do you tent for drywood termites?
No, we don't tent. For drywood termites in wood we can reach, we treat the infested wood directly with a spot treatment, a borate wood treatment, or injected foam. If the activity is widespread or the wood is out of reach, we'll refer you to a fumigation company.
What does your lawn program include?
Fertilizer, weed control, and insect control, following a seasonal rotation. Mowing isn't part of it.
How long does weed control take to work?
Give it about 10 to 14 days to show. Some weeds need a second round.
How should I water my lawn?
Follow your county's watering days, water early in the morning, and water deeply and less often.
Do you treat lawn insects like chinch bugs?
Yes, lawn insects are part of the program. Your technician checks at the next visit and treats where they confirm a problem and the label allows.
When should I mow after a lawn treatment?
Check your visit card. If it doesn't say, call us and we'll tell you.
What time will my technician arrive?
Arrival windows are two hours and start on the hour.
Do I need to pay a deposit?
No deposit. New recurring customers who pay by card save the card when they book and are charged after the first visit.
Am I signing a long-term contract?
No. Residential pest and lawn plans have no long-term contract, so you can cancel any time. Termite plans and commercial accounts follow their signed agreement.
Can I get a refund on a prepaid year?
If you prepay a year of pest or lawn service and cancel within 90 days, we refund the visits not yet done. After 90 days there's no refund, and the paid visits stay on your schedule through the end of the prepaid term.
What are the WaveGuard tiers?
WaveGuard has four tiers: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Your tier depends on how many qualifying recurring services you have.
Can I find out which products you used at my visit?
Yes. The office can tell you which products were applied at your visit, and can email a product label or Safety Data Sheet on request.
